After Hurricane Wilma

Finally the rains have stopped. For some of us it’s business as usual, ‘no problems’. Some however are not so fortunate. The flood rains completely destroyed some homes while severely damaging others. There are still communities where the residents are marooned. Landslides, fallen trees and high waters have completely blocked areas forbidding persons from moving about freely. Bridges have collapsed, roads have broken away and fordings are impassable. To add to the frustration water mains in some sections have broken depriving residents of clean water with which to begin putting their lives back together.

Follow up:

One housing scheme which has been totally devastated is Kennedy Grove in May Pen.
For the second time in four months the scheme has been flooded out with some of the houses being completely submerged. This is a fairly new housing scheme. The question is why were the houses built in such a flood prone area? Did the developers request proper permission? And if they did who approved it?
All the roads every where island wide are in dire need of urgent attention. The already stretched National works agency will definitely be busy for some time to come. The Causeway and the Mandela High way have both proven to be grossly inadequate and will need to be treated with some amount of priority.
It will take some time for Jamaica to recover from the effects of Hurricane Wilma. There are families left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It’s at times like these that the true strength of a nation is tested. We need to all get involved and find a way to help our fellow Jamaicans.

Sister Mary Margaret

SISTER MARGARET MARY, WHO WORKS FOR A LOCAL HOME HEALTH AGENCY WAS OUT MAKING HER ROUNDS WHEN SHE RAN OUT OF GAS.

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT A GAS STATION WAS JUST A BLOCK AWAY.

SHE WALKED TO THE STATION TO BORROW A CAN OF GAS TO START & THEN DRIVE TO THE STATION FOR A FILL UP.

THE ATTENDANT REGRETFULLY TOLD HER THE ONLY GAS CAN HE OWNED HAD BEEN LOANED OUT BUT IF SHE WOULD WAIT, IT WAS SURE TO BE BACK SHORTLY.

SINCE THE NUN ! WAS ON THE WAY TO SEE A PATIENT SHE DECIDED NOT TO WAIT & SHE WALKED BACK TO THE CAR. AFTER LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO FILL WITH GAS, SHE SPOTTED A BEDPAN SHE WAS TAKING TO THE PATIENT.

ALWAYS RESOURCEFUL, SHE CARRIED IT TO THE STATION & FILLED IT WITH GASOLINE, & CARRIED IT TO HER CAR.

AS SHE WAS POURING THE GAS INTO THE TANK, TWO MEN WERE WATCHING FROM ACROSS THE STREET. ONE OF THEM TURNED TO THE OTHER & SAID, "IF IT STARTS, I'M TURNING CATHOLIC".
