Matthew 24: 6-8
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Different religions interpret the bible differently. I do not profess to be any authority myself however I do believe this passage of scripture speaks for itself. For those of us who believe in the bible, Matthew 24, talks about the events which is to precede the second coming of Christ.

The passage of time as related in biblical terms is unclear. Many will argue that there have been many wars fought since the beginning of time. That is true however I’m sure many will agree that in the last year or so the incidents of natural disasters have become far more frequent than ever before.
Within the last year alone there have been so much destruction and dead caused from natural disasters around the world it’s mind boggling. Last December 2004, a 9.00 quake in Indonesia triggered a tsunami which left 212,000 dead and whole villages destroyed.
In July 2005, record setting rains caused extensive flooding and triggered landslides killing over 850 persons in Mumbai. August 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the US Gulf coast. Last week Tropical storm Stan wiped out entire villages in Guatemala killing thousands. Rescue workers have still not been able to reach some areas. The latest is the massive earthquake which struck Pakistan and India this weekend. The last count I heard was thirty thousand lives lost and still counting.
I don’t know how much more plain it can get. As to the time frame I have no idea. I do believe however that the Lord is speaking to us. What frightens me is verse 8 and beyond. “All these are the beginning of sorrows”. The good news is that the Lord never leaves us without hope. In verse 13 it says,” But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”
My fellow Jamaicans, so far God has speared us a direct hit from Mother Natures wrath. I do believe that there are many prayer warriors in our small island that is saving us. The events of the last two weeks in our nation have been very traumatic. Just yesterday Sunday October 09 another family of three was murdered when gunmen kicked open their door and shot an adult female, a young man of 18 years and a child of 10years.
My granny always used to say “that too will pass”. I guest she got it from the bible. Now I think I’m beginning to understand what she meant. In the meantime I want to encourage all Jamaicans to trust in God and pray unceasingly.
