Today Father Richard Holung and the Missionaries of the Corpus Christi premises at 3 North Street, downtown Kingston are in morning. Two of their brothers’ young trainee priests Suresh Barwa from India and Marco Laspuna from the Philippines were shot and killed.
Reports are that a single bullet hit both men in the head passing first through one then the other as they stood in the kitchen cleaning up after supper. One priest died on the spot while the other died later in hospital. The bullet came from beyond the walls surrounding the grounds and through the kitchen window.

The Missionaries of the Poor which was founded by Father Richard Holung cares for over 500 homeless and destitute people in five centers in downtown Kingston. They are Faith Centre on Laws Street, Good Shepherd at tower Street, Jacobs Well on Hanover Street, Lord’s Place and an AIDs home at Highholburn Street. The missionaries help to clean, clothe and feed the persons in these centers. They also help and offer medical care to others in the surrounding communities each day.
Was this a deliberate act or is it a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Could it be that a stray bullet found its way through the kitchen window? Minister of National Security Dr. Peter Phillips visited the crime scene today and has assured the brothers that every thing possible will be done to investigate the shooting.
All Jamaica is in shock. Each time that we think it can’t get any worst we are proven wrong. The missionaries working with Father Hulong work hard to care for this nation poor. Reports are that one of the victims only arrived in the island last week. Obviously no one and no where is safe in Jamaica any more.
